3 HVAC Services Fayetteville, NC Homeowners Shouldn’t DIY

October 28, 2018

In today’s DIY-centric world, more and more homeowners in Fayetteville, North Carolina, are attempting DIY projects around their houses. While there are certainly some projects that a novice can handle, others should be left to the professionals. HVAC repairs and maintenance always fall in the latter category, as trying to DIY an HVAC repair could result in an expensive and problematic situation.

Repairs

If you notice any warning signs with your HVAC system, you may be tempted to try to perform a repair on your own. However, damaged components that need to be replaced and other potential issues within the unit aren’t easy to fix. It’s always better to contact a technician to figure out what’s causing the problem and come up with a plan for repair.

Maintenance

While there are a few maintenance tasks you can do yourself, the general inspection process should be left to an HVAC pro. Swapping out the filter, cleaning the vents and air returns, and clearing out any debris from the outdoor unit’s housing are tasks that you can likely handle, but anything beyond that shouldn’t be attempted. You also shouldn’t try to do anything that requires the unit to be opened, as poking around in your furnace or AC could result in damage to the components inside.

Installation

Installing an HVAC system is an extremely complex process. If even one step is handled incorrectly, you could end up with gaps in the ductwork, leaky sections that allow heated and cooled air to seep out, or a system that doesn’t provide sufficient ventilation. An improperly sized unit will also cause problems, whether it’s too large or too small for the space. You might think you can save money by installing it yourself, but you’ll likely end up spending more to have an HVAC professional come in to do it right.
